A container for a complete map object. Maps are a flat collection of map objects. Map object means a distinct feature on a map. For example, a national boundary would typically be represented by one 217-MAP-OBJECT with one or more map polylines showing the border location, and one or more map annotations containing one or more instances of the country name, and any other information strongly associated with the country, such as population info and so on. There is no hierarchy supported among map objects. If a country has three provinces, then there would be one map object for the country, and one map object for each of the three provinces. The province information is not logically contained within, or nested below the country information.
